Lorenzo Arnez Green, 39, who has a lengthy criminal history, was sentenced to 18 years in prison with no time suspended after being convicted on a host of charges following an incident that played out while he was on probation.
Specifically, Green was convicted of:
- Two counts of possession with the. intent to distribute a Schedule I or II controlled substance;
- Possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance;
- Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon;
- Robbery by threat;
- Using a firearm in the commission of a felony;
- Using a firearm in the commission of a felony (second violation);
- Malicious wounding;
- Failure to appear on a felony.
Prosecutors say that in June 2023, Green went to a convenience store on Pacific Boulevard wearing a black hoodie and mask while the clerk was mopping the floor.
Green pushed her from behind and pointed what she believed to be a gun at her face while demanding the clerk give him all the money in the register before striking her with the gun.
The clerk attempted to defend herself by striking Green in the head with a coffee pot, advised him to take the money himself and he fled the area.
He was arrested in February this year - in possession of drugs - and charged with offenses related to the armed robbery. At the time, deputies recovered plastic baggies containing cyputylone, a synthetic stimulant.
Before committing that armed robbery, Green was taken into custody on June 1, 2022, for an incident that occurred in May 2022.
In that case, he was seen holding what appeared to be a rifle outside of an apartment complex in Leesburg and explained to a passerby that, “Someone had to call me because some people got stupid in their crib,” according to prosecutors.
When he was arrested that time, Leesburg police detectives found that he had a vial containing PCP and plastic baggies with cocaine.
Green was released on bond on June 14, 2022.
Investigators noted that Green’s criminal history also includes a felony conviction of grand larceny from October 2004 in Frederick County.
During his sentencing hearing, Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Eden Holmes argued that Green is a “significant risk to the community at-large and those around him … his actions threaten our safety and our lives.”
He recommended the max sentence, adding that "he deserves every minute of that eighteen years … a sentence above the guidelines."
At sentencing, the judge agreed, saying that due to Green's "history of violence, (the prison term was) demanded by (his) actions."
